Modeled as a flower on a slender, arching stem, this vintage Art Deco inspired 18k white gold brooch combines dimensional ruby petals with pavé-set round brilliant cut diamonds. Closely fitted mixed cut rubies follow the undulating contours and curled edges of the flower’s petals, forming a continuous mosaic of rich pink-red color. Known as serti invisible, this setting technique requires precisely calibrated gemstones with grooved girdles that lock into a fine framework concealed beneath their surfaces, eliminating visible prongs between the stones. Perfected during the 1930s, the high jewelry technique of invisible setting is a favorite for dimensional floral compositions such as this. An open lattice follows the petal contours on the reverse, and a long hinged pin with a safety catch secures the brooch.
