Carved on both faces, a warm orange sard forms the reversible centerpiece of this Victorian 9k yellow gold ring, attributed to Wolfsky & Co. One face depicts a domed scarab, with incised lines defining its wing cases, head, and legs. The stone swivels within an oval gold frame to reveal a flat intaglio of a rooster, its finely engraved plumage enclosed by a border of closely spaced strokes. Pivots at the ends of the carving allow either face to be displayed, combining sculptural ornament and recessed engraving in a single stone. Broad shoulders with elongated open spaces taper into a plain polished shank, leaving the carving visually prominent. British gold hallmarks and the maker's mark “SBW” appear inside the band.
