Antique Victorian 16k Yellow Gold Joan of Arc Enamel Brooch

A finely painted portrait of Joan of Arc fills this circular nineteenth-century brooch, her left-facing profile set against a deep black enamel ground. Delicate shading models the face, while individual brushstrokes define her flowing auburn hair and softly colored features. A narrow gold headband crosses the hair, its hand-engraved detail adding texture to the painted composition. Her yellow gold armor introduces a sculptural contrast, with engraved rivet borders, a lion’s head at the breastplate, and fan-shaped ornament below. Polished and textured gold surfaces distinguish the armor’s separate elements, giving depth to the compact portrait. A slim gold rim encloses the image, while the plain reverse carries a hinged brooch pin and curved catch.
