Antique Floral Carved Mutton Fat Jade Vase on Wood Stand
This elegant antique “mutton fat” jade vase is a refined example of traditional Chinese hardstone carving, beautifully complemented by its fitted carved wood stand.
The vase is hand-carved from creamy white nephrite jade with the soft, even tone and silky luster characteristic of highly prized mutton fat jade. Its classic baluster form rises gracefully from a slightly tapered base to a gently flared neck, creating a harmonious and balanced silhouette.
Delicately carved in low relief along one side is a flowering branch with blossoms and buds, the stems trailing vertically across the body of the vase. The carving is subtle and refined rather than deeply cut, allowing the natural translucency and smooth polish of the jade to remain the focal point. The surface has a soft glow, with natural variations and inclusions consistent with age and genuine nephrite.
The vase is presented on its original dark carved wood stand, which features openwork scrolling details and elevates the piece with a sculptural presence. The contrast between the pale jade and the rich wood enhances its visual impact.
