Antique 982 Sterling Silver Trinity Church, Lady & Bird Card Case
This exceptional antique .982 sterling silver card case is a beautifully detailed example of late 19th–early 20th century repoussé silverwork.
One side features an intricately rendered architectural view of Trinity Church, framed by elaborate scrolling foliage and floral ornamentation. The reverse showcases a romantic figural scene of a winged classical maiden holding a bird, surrounded by richly textured botanical motifs. The high-relief detailing and finely stippled background create striking depth and contrast across both panels, while the scalloped edges enhance its sculptural presence. Marked .982 for high-purity silver, this piece reflects fine Continental craftsmanship of the period.
The case opens along the top via a discreet hinge, revealing an interior compartment designed to hold small personal items. Given its compact size – approximately 3.6 x 2.5 x 0.4 inches – it was likely intended as a calling card case or visiting card. Such cases were fashionable accessories used to carry personal or business calling cards in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
