Antique 19k Yellow Gold Green Glass Indian Thewa Hunting Scene Brooch
$1,299.00
$1,299.00
An intricately pierced gold hunting scene stands against green glass in this 19th-century Indian Thewa brooch, probably from Pratapgarh, Rajasthan, and dating to circa 1850–1880. The Thewa-work consists of a pierced gold foil sheet fused over colored glass, allowing the green ground to define the negative spaces between the figures and foliage. At the right, a hunter aims a long weapon toward a wounded antelope amid flowering branches, with engraved details delineating the animal’s coat, the hunter’s clothing, and the surrounding vegetation. A repeating chevron border encloses the scene, while a polished gold rim and outer rope border give the oval composition a layered frame. The closed reverse carries a hinged pin secured by a simple C-shaped catch.
